FEATURE: This Ain’t A Love Song... So What’s New?

Before I get started on the meat and two veg, so to speak, it would be wrong to borrow the song title without paying tribute to Scouting for Girls’ well-deserved success. They are a hardworking band; write genuinely good pop songs and are tireless in support of their two chosen charities. I like them a lot … I’m also grateful to Roy and the boys for prodding a notion that has been cat-napping at the back of my mind for way to long …

It’s that time of year when I could be forgiven for waxing lyrical about cloudless skies and butterflies hovering around pink-hued acacia blooms; but more than likely, it’s the sight of tawny-limbed lovelies in tight-fitting tank-tops and flouncy rah-rah skirts that stirs the romantic man in me. And what’s more, a stroll through any city centre would show that I’m not a stand-alone guy.

Is a Band Bigger Than Its Singer? (FEATURE)

Last month, Thin Lizzy announced that Ricky Warwick of the Almighty would be joining them as their third lead vocalist following the departure of John Sykes, who had been the band’s singer since they originally reformed in 1996.

In the same month, the Faces were confirmed as headliners of this August’s Vintage at Goodwood festival in West Sussex, with a certain Mick Hucknall due to stand in for Rod Stewart on vocals. Both of these announcements beg the question: how much do a band need their lead singer?

Less Than Jake Return With November UK Tour Dates & Tickets

You'd think that almost two full years of near-nonstop touring would deserve a long break, but such is not the case for ska/punk/pop pioneers LESS THAN JAKE who are continuing their trek across the Atlantic and into Europe and UK with punk-rap legends Zebrahead.

"We were used to being in the UK and Europe three times a year like clockwork but we took some time away for some new projects," says LTJ drummer Vinnie Fiorello. "Now we are coming back and can't wait to be back doing a full tour."

This tour with Zebrahead is a special one since the bands have been friends for over a decade. "We've known the Zebrahead guys since 1997 and being able to share a tour with them again makes the journey full circle," he continues.

However, putting the zip-lines and pyrotechnics to shame, Bon Jovi went a step further this week by playing ON TOP of London’s O2 Arena!

Stigma - Concerto for the Undead (ALBUM REVIEW)

Concerto For The Undead is Stigma’s second commercial release, since the Italian death metal 4 piece formed in 2000. The relentless, ear splitting 10 track record is a nonstop mass of heavy metal guitar riffs, relentless, skin splitting drumming and horrific barking, shouting and screaming. Give that man a throat sweet.

The Klaxons – Plymouth White Rabbit – 2nd June 2010 (LIVE REVIEW)
Live Reviews
Wednesday, 09 June 2010 Written by Rob Sleigh

It’s always been somewhat curious that certain bands, who have become accustomed to filling huge venues and headlining festivals, occasionally choose to play small clubs for a more intimate show. Why perform in front of hundreds of fans when thousands would be willing to come along? Is it because it provides them with an ideal forum for trying out new material? Or is it merely a charitable offering to the fans that are situated further afield from the usual tour stops? Either way, that is exactly what dance-punk trio the Klaxons have opted to do. Tonight’s gig at the 400-capacity White Rabbit in Plymouth is one of several intimate dates that also include Gloucester, Southend and Colchester.
